Description

The City of Chicago Department of Transportation required Category 8 Professional Construction Engineering services for the Bloomingdale Trail and Park Rehabilitation. The project converted a 2.67 mile under-utilized freight railroad embankment along Bloomingdale Avenue (1800 N) from Ridgeway Avenue (3800 W) to Ashland Avenue (1600 W) to a grade-separated park and multi-use trail.

The project involved the rehabilitation and/or replacement of 38 viaduct structures, repairs to 37 embankment segments, construction of 11 ADA accessible points, construction of a multi-use path and ramps, landscaping, wayfinding and seating areas on top of the embankment. This required heavy coordination with the Chicago Park District, property owners, Chicago Transit Authority, IDOT, Canadian Pacific and Metra Railroads.
