The Illinois Department of Transportation required the reconstruction and widening of over four miles of Illinois Route 53 (Rohlwing Road) from Army Trail Road to the Elgin O’Hare Expressway in the villages of Addison and Itasca. The existing two lane roadway needed to be widened to five lanes comprised of two lanes in each direction and a center median for left turns.
As part of the reconstruction, the project provided for new and improved roadway lighting and major intersection improvements including barrier medians and traffic signal modernization. Roadway shoulders and drainage ditches were replaced with concrete curbs and gutters along with an underground storm sewer system. New sidewalks along the route were also constructed.
d’Escoto, Inc. provided Phase III construction engineering services for the project. Duties included inspection and documentation of pay quantities, quality assurance coordination and monitoring, maintaining a project diary, daily and weekly reports, daily quantities, field books, calculations, construction staking and layout as necessary to ensure the project was built per plans and specifications.
