Overview

Client: Chicago Department of Water Management

Location: Chicago, IL

Description

The project limits are: W. 53rd Street from S. Pulaski Road to S. Millard Avenue.

The project was located in the West Elsdon neighborhood near Midway International Airport on the south side of the City. West 53rd Street is a one-way street with traffic flowing toward the east and there is a small roundabout located at 53rd and Hamlin.

The project consisted of approximately 2,500 linear feet of 30-inch to 60-in diameter sewer pipe installation.

Services Provided

d’Escoto, Inc. provided a Resident Engineer and Construction Inspector to oversee the sewer pipe installation.

Resident Engineer duties included, but were not limited to:

  • Managing and organizing field inspection needs
  • Performing site inspections and assisting Inspector with fieldwork as needed
  • Reviewing and checking the daily report with the measurement sheet
  • Assisting the contractor with utility coordination
  • Coordinating with other agencies and city departments
  • Preparing a break report if a utility is hit and coordinating with that utility for repair
  • Preparing paperwork such as PCMs, LICs, field orders, ADA ramp QC reports, etc.
  • Preparing the monthly estimate
  • Addressing concerns by the public

Inspector duties included, but were not limited to:

  • Inspecting the work to verify it is constructed per City standards and specifications
  • Inspecting the installation of the earth retention system
  • Inspecting the excavation, installation of the sewer and/or sewer structures, and proper backfilling of the excavation
  • Inspecting any restoration work needed
  • Measuring all work and submitting the daily report with a measurement sheet.
