The University of Chicago Medical Center commissioned a Facility Condition Assessment for 3.3 million square feet of their existing facilities, which includes patient care rooms, surgical suites, medical support spaces, research laboratories and lab support spaces, lecture halls, classrooms and office suites. These buildings were originally constructed between 1897 and 2009, and vary in size from 8,000 square feet to 538,000 square feet. Most of the medical center buildings are a part of a series of contiguous buildings at the University of Chicago, while others are remote, including buildings at Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago’s western suburbs.
d’Escoto, Inc. provided architectural and mechanical/plumbing assessments for 37 of the University of Chicago Medical Center’s buildings. The assessment included a summary review of the buildings’ life safety features, accessibility per the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), condition of finishes, mechanical systems, and plumbing systems. Based on the findings, construction cost estimates were developed, using Parsons’ proprietary cost estimate software. In addition, d’Escoto provided MEP Quality Control services.
