Description

This project included the new construction of an 88,000 SF vehicle maintenance facility founded on caissons and grade beams and intended to store and maintain large snow removal equipment at O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The building consists of a long-span steel frame structure enclosed with a metal roof deck and precast concrete wall panels, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work, and CMU interior partitions. Amenities include five, 40-foot-wide, insulated sliding doors providing access to several service bays. Interior components include administrative offices and restrooms; as well as, a mezzanine storage area and roof access. At least half of the building materials were locally sourced and the materials contain a high level of recycled content. The building is heated with a high-efficiency radiant system that minimizes heat loss when the doors are opened. Other features include stormwater management, a white roof membrane to reduce the heat island effect, and high-efficiency lighting systems.
